**Overview** The RN Flight Nurse for PICU, NICU and Pediatrics provides pre-hospital and inter-facility professional nursing care as part of the ALERT air ambulance team in collaboration with other flight RN’s, medic’s and on-line medical control physician. Coordinates care with other disciplines and other pre-hospital providers. Services the neonatal and pediatric population. Works in collaboration with the pilot to provide safe flight operations. **Responsibilities** 1. *Performs comprehensive assessment of patient on admission or first contact in accordance with Neonatal/Pediatric Transport policies and procedures and the unit (Flight) specific standards. 2. *Continually assesses and reassesses each patient by identifying problems, implementing interventions, and evaluating patient’s response as evaluated by chart/documentation review. 3. *Completes charting in conjunction with involved Flight Nurse and/or Medic. 4. *Completes required Flight specific competencies each year to include mandatory educational requirements, and flight equipment competencies. 5. *Performs a minimum of one (1) intubation in a rolling ninety (90) day period. 6. *Exhibits professionalism by meeting the expectations of leadership. Teaches or arranges for educational session as assigned, assists the Flight Medical Director with chart reviews, QC stats, arranging/posting Critique Meeting as assigned. 7. *Assists with loading/unloading of patients to and from the aircraft and various terrains and weather elements as necessary. 8. *Works in collaboration with the Flight Nurse or Paramedic for all aspects of patient care, to include, but may not be limited to: monitor, IV, EKG, intubation, suction, ventilation, vent application, IV pumps, IV drips, medication administration, defibrillation, pacing, CPR, needle chest decompression, IO needle insertion, patient packaging (c-collar, backboard, traction splints, other splints), hypothermia treatment, hyperthermia treatment, patient extrication when needed, patient carry-outs from remote locations (may involve hiking, 4-wheeler, horse, boat, wheeled-litter, snowmobile, etc.). 9. *Adheres to unit standards for attendance at ALERT critique to ensure currency on protocols, policies and procedures, educational topics, safety issues, chart reviews, which are mandatory to maintain a current flight status. 10. *While not performing duties related to patient transport, will be available as a resource for the Montana Children’s Medical Center inpatient pediatric units and neonatal units. **Qualifications** 1. Current Montana RN License required. BSN preferred. 2. Current Healthcare Provider CPR, ACLS, NRP, PALS Certification and Trauma Course (PHTLS or ATLS audit) certification or must successfully obtain within one (1) year of hire. 3. Advanced certification of CCRN, CPN, RNC-NIC, or CNP-T preferred or must successfully obtain within one (1) year of hire. 4. Minimum of one (1) year NICU experience (Level III or higher) and one (1) year PICU experience **OR** Minimum of one (1) year experience on a neonatal pediatric specialty flight team. 5. Must satisfactorily complete orientation and competency to flight safety under direct supervision of a flight nurse. 6. Must satisfactorily meet and maintain Flight Crew requirements: 7. All current Flight Crewmembers will continuously meet the stated physical requirements to remain in flight status. 8. Maximum body weight with flight gear (flight suit, jacket, boots, helmet: approximately 10#): 250 lbs. 9. It is the responsibility of each crewmember to know the physical requirements and to notify their immediate supervisor if they do not meet these requirements at any time. 10.
