Overview Accepting applications Open & closing dates Opening and closing dates03/18/2021 to 03/31/2021 Service Excepted Pay scale & grade VM 15 Salary $210,000 to $250,000 per yearEducation and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary Appointment type Permanent Work schedule Full-Time Duties SummaryThe VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System is recruiting an enthusiastic Board Certified/Eligible Internal Medicine Provider to join the Hospitalist Section and work with a team of multi-disciplinary clinical providers to care for our Nations Veterans.

The Hospitalist Section currently includes a team of 23 dedicated Hospitalists with shared call and duty rotations supported by an ancillary staff.

The selected Provider will report directly to the Chief of Hospitalist Section.ResponsibilitiesDescription of specific duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to: Providing patient care and attending on the surgical co-management serviceProviding academic leadership regarding surgical co-management, perioperative medicine, and wound careProviding patient care and attending on the non-teaching serviceProviding supervision of procedures for medical students, interns, and residents.Conducting procedures requiring special competency for hospitalist privileges, such as lumbar puncture, paracentesis, and non-emergent central line placementProviding patient care and attending on the inpatient Medicine wardsProviding patient care and attending on the inpatient Medicine Consultation ServiceProviding patient care and attending on the Short Stay CLC services supervised by hospitalistsTeaching and supervising patient care provided by trainees including medical students, interns, and residents in Internal Medicine.

Leading morning report on Mondays/Wednesdays and presenting in noon conferences.

Functioning as “Medical Officer of the Day” daytime or overnight.Participating in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned.

Up to 6 months of clinical activities will occur outside VA administrative hours (8:00 a.m.

– 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday).

Work Schedule: 8:00 a.m.

– 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, 14 day rotation.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.Board Certification/Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine Requirement
– Current Board Certification/Board Eligibility in Internal Medicine is required to be qualified for this positionProficiency in spoken and written English.Physical requirements outlined below.Preferred Experience:Must have experience with provision of acute inpatient care or has provided direct care to acute internal medicine patients, as a primary clinical focus, within the past 2 years.experience conducting procedures requiring special competency for hospitalist privileges, such as lumbar puncture, paracentesis, and non-emergent central line placement Individual must have teaching experience in internal medicine in an academic center.The individual must be qualified/eligible to receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine at the affiliate University.Individual who has demonstrated academic achievement and can provide academic leadership in the fields of surgical co-management, perioperative care, and wound careFirst author peer reviewed publication(s) on wound healing from past five yearsFirst author peer reviewed publication(s) on reducing complications in surgery from past five yearsReference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard.
