JOB SUMMARY:The Laboratory Processing Supervisor supervises processing staff, e.g., Phlebotomists and/or Lab Assistants and operations to assure that pre-analytical patient testing occurs in a timely and satisfactory manner. This position is responsible for scheduling staff and workflow, and troubleshooting phlebotomy, processing, and patient issues during a shift. The Supervisor is responsible for executing direction from the System Director and Medical Director of the Laboratory and may perform duties and functions of a Phlebotomist or Lab Assistant as needed to ensure efficient department operations.RESPONSIBILITIES:* Supervises and coordinates all activities related to pre-testing activity within the laboratory, and is responsible for the on-going assurance that patient specimen collection and processing meets quality and turn-around-time expectations.* Oversees workflow, and troubleshoots technical and patient issues during a shift.* Actively works with laboratory leadership to improve systems to support the patient testing process, and evaluates departmental needs and makes recommendations to revise testing methodologies and platforms as necessary.* Schedules department staff, all shifts, and all days including holidays.* Assures and maintains (orders) adequate supplies.* Processes Reference Lab specimens for transport to the appropriate reference lab, e.g., Lab Corp., Quest, etc.* Delegates work assignments and, as necessary, reassigns staff to meet changing workload and circumstances, and schedules break and lunch periods to optimize departmental operations.* Evaluates departmental problems and develops and recommends resolution strategies.* Functions as a member of the local laboratory leadership team and coordinates with laboratory leadership in the identification, implementation, and optimization of patient testing.* Evaluates training needs of staff and conducts training accordingly.* Performs evaluations and competency assessments for assigned staff and maintains adequate records for annual reviews.* Performs payroll duties in Kronos for Processing Department staff.* Assists in developing, writing and maintaining appropriate procedure manuals, policies and competency tools.* Implements new processes as approved by Laboratory Leadership.* Performs other duties as assigned and is willing to fill in when needed in the department.QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:Experience:* Two years experience in a health care setting* Medical Assistant certification is acceptable with a minimum of 3 years experience in phlebotomy* Prior supervisory experience is preferredEducation: Bachelor’s degree preferredLicenses / Certifications: Certification in Phlebotomy required (ASCP/NCA/NHA)Other: The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.Apply for Transfer (current employees only)External applicants click here to applyExternal Application ConfirmAre you sure you want to continue as an EXTERNAL applicant?YesNoInternal Application ConfirmAre you sure you want to continue as a INTERNAL applicant?YesNo
